What's The State Of Diecast Collecting?

Saw this question on one of our friend's redline site, thought it was pertinent today.

Are you adding new diecast cars to to your collection lately? Hunting, buying on ebay, other? Or has the economy slowed down your pace?

I had to slow it down since money needed to go to necessities. Play cash is not in the budget right now, so I buy the occasional retail car while in department stores just to feed the jones once in a while. Not as satisfying, but at least I can roll them around on my desk while I work.

My business has been improving the past 5 or 6 months and I've been having fun with the cars again. Went to Kmart days yesterday, recently ordered a Lincoln Mark III and Classic Cord from hotwheelscollectors.com that also arrived in the mail yesterday (very nice), and watching Ebay and the store shelves. Today I'm odering off Ebay a new Mighty Maverick and Chaparrel plastic wings to complete the ones I lost on those cars in my childhood.

Due to changes in my life, my collecting is all but stopped. Now I only look for Dairy Delivery and real themed items, no more fantasy themed non-existant models, only stuff that has been seen in movies, tv, cartoons, comics. Since the quality of diecast toys has gone downhill so much, it just isn't as much interest either. Mattel have made it so much easier to lose interest since their continued belief that collectors will buy their product no matter how crappy.

As for cash flow the only reason I would slow down is from putting money in my car and saving for a Harley.

What has slowed me down on collecting (haven't found anything in about 3months) is that most the Hot Wheels/Hobby/ect. stores have closed. Some went online but for the most part there just gone. I try to buy local, I've had some bad luck with getting things shipped. I'm thinking if my luck on finding stuff don't change soon, I'll try ebay again.

There is a great local toy show, next one is in Nov. so I have hi hopes of find some good stuff.
